Laptop Screens – What’s the difference between LED and CCFL panels?

If you take a walk around PC World you will see that a bit of a fan fair is being created by many laptop manufacturers pushing their latest laptops with LED screens inside. What is all the fuss about and what was wrong with the old type of laptop screens?

The new LED laptop screens have a different sort of backlight inside them. As a result these screens dont have an inverter and are lit from the surrounding edge of the screen as opposed from cathode tubes located in the back of the screen. This means there are two main benefits from the new LED technology. Firstly, the picture quality and contrast is superior – which is of importance to people who anticipate watching a lot of films on their laptop. Secondly, the LED laptop screen uses a lot less power that the older style of CCFL screen. The main benefit of this is quite simple – it will make your laptop battery last longer.

Of course nothing comes for free. You will see that laptops that have LED screens will tend to be at least £550, as opposed to normal screen laptops which start from £400. Our advice is that if you intend on watching a lot of films on your laptop then think seriously about getting an LED screen in your laptop. The advice from Laptop Power UK is, if you never watch films on your laptop – dont worry about it too much!!
